Pregnant week 9 – when development continues at a rapid pace
Pregnancy week 9 is characterized by continued symptoms and rapid development in the baby. Read about what is happening in the body and with the baby in week 9.
Pregnant week 9 is a part of early pregnancy, where much is still happening hidden, but where the body is working intensely. For many, the symptoms from the previous weeks continue, while others begin to experience small changes. Pregnancy is still vulnerable, and it is completely normal to be extra aware of your body's signals.
Even though pregnancy is not yet visible from the outside, significant changes are taking place inside.
What happens in the body in week 9?
In week 9 of pregnancy, hormone production is still high, and hCG levels are often close to their highest. The hormones affect digestion, circulation, and energy levels, among other things, and many people continue to experience fatigue and nausea.
The uterus gradually grows, but is still protected in the pelvis. The amount of blood in the body increases, which can cause symptoms such as dizziness or palpitations in some people.
Symptoms in pregnancy week 9
Symptoms in week 9 of pregnancy are often similar to those in weeks 7 and 8. Nausea can still be a big deal, and for some, vomiting is a part of everyday life. Fatigue is common, and many need more rest than usual.
Sore breasts, changes in appetite, changes in taste, and increased sensitivity to smells continue to be typical pregnancy symptoms this week. Some also experience digestive discomfort such as bloating or constipation.
What happens to the baby in week 9?
In week 9 of pregnancy, the baby is developing rapidly. The embryo is now about 2–3 centimeters long and is gradually starting to resemble a small human. The basic structures for organs have been laid, and the heart, brain, and nervous system are continuing to develop.
Arms and legs are becoming more distinct, and little fingers and toes are starting to take shape. Even though your baby is still very small, there is great progress from week to week.
Pregnant week 9 and the belly
For most people, the belly is not yet visibly pregnant at week 9. However, some may experience bloating, which can make the belly feel larger. This is primarily due to hormonal changes and the impact on digestion – not the size of the baby.
Can you test positive at week 9?
In the 9th week of pregnancy, a pregnancy test will show a clear positive result. The HCG level is high and the test is reliable. At this point, there is usually no doubt about the result.
What can you do in week 9?
In week 9, it is still important to listen to your body and pay attention to any symptoms. Small, frequent meals can help with nausea, and rest is important if energy is low.
If you haven't already done so, you can contact your doctor for guidance on the course of your pregnancy and your future plan.
Thoughts and feelings in pregnancy week 9
Week 9 of pregnancy can be emotionally demanding. Anticipation and joy can be mixed with worry, especially since it's still early in the pregnancy. Many need time and peace to adjust to the changes that are underway.
There is no right way to have it.
When should you seek medical attention?
In week 9 of pregnancy, there is generally no need for emergency medical care. If you experience severe pain, persistent bleeding, fever or severe nausea with signs of dehydration, you should contact a doctor.
