Gravid uge 16 – mere ro og begyndende kontakt

Pregnant week 16 is firmly in the second trimester, where many experience that the pregnancy feels calmer and more stable. The body has adapted to the hormonal changes, and for many, energy levels are better than in the first weeks. At the same time, the pregnancy begins to feel more present – both physically and mentally.

Week 16 can therefore be a period when energy returns and more space is created to experience pregnancy in new ways.

What happens in the body at week 16?

In week 16 of pregnancy, the uterus continues to grow and now takes up more space in the abdomen. This can affect posture and balance, and some people begin to feel slight tension in the back or lower back. The body's circulation is still working harder than usual, and the amount of blood has increased to supply both you and the baby.

Hormone levels are relatively stable during this phase, which often provides more physical and mental peace. At the same time, the body works purposefully to support the child's continued growth.

Symptoms in pregnancy week 16

Many people experience fewer discomforts in the 16th week of pregnancy than before. For most, nausea has disappeared, and appetite is more even. Fatigue can still occur, but often feels less heavy and more predictable.

Other common symptoms may include increased vaginal discharge, nosebleeds, mild headaches, or stretch mark sensations in the stomach. Some also experience skin changes, either in the form of pigment changes or increased glow.

What happens to the baby at week 16?

At 16 weeks pregnant, the baby is about 11–12 centimeters long and weighs about 100 grams. The baby's movements become more powerful and coordinated, and the muscles develop rapidly. Although many cannot yet feel the movements, the baby is very active inside the womb.

The baby's facial features are becoming more distinct, and the eyes and ears are closer to their final position. The baby may also start to make small sucking sounds and mouth movements.

Pregnant week 16 and the belly

By week 16, the belly for many has begun to become visible. For some it is a clear pregnant belly, while for others it is still more discreet. The belly may feel firmer, and the uterus can often be felt well up in the abdomen.

It is very individual how the body changes, and differences are completely normal.

What can you do in week 16?

Week 16 of pregnancy is a good time for many to be more active again, if their body allows it. Exercise can support both physical well-being and mood, but it's important to find a level that feels right.

Many also begin to take a more concrete approach to pregnancy, for example by planning examinations, learning about birth preparation, or talking more openly about the pregnancy with those around them.

Thoughts and feelings in pregnancy week 16

For many, pregnancy week 16 feels more secure and manageable. Worries can take up less space, and the joy of pregnancy can take up more space. At the same time, expectations can grow as the pregnancy becomes more visible and real.

All of these feelings are natural and part of the pregnancy process.
