Pregnant week 15 – the pregnancy becomes more visible
For many, pregnancy week 15 is marked by more stability and more obvious physical changes. Read about symptoms and baby's development in week 15.
Pregnancy week 15 is in the middle of the beginning of the second trimester, where many experience that the pregnancy is becoming more present in the body. For some, energy has returned, and everyday life feels more manageable, while the body at the same time begins to change more visibly. Pregnancy goes from being something that is primarily felt inside, to also being able to be seen and felt from the outside.
Week 15 can therefore be characterized by both increased well-being and new bodily sensations.
What happens in the body at week 15?
In week 15 of pregnancy, the uterus continues to grow and moves further up the abdomen. This can change posture and give a different feeling in the back and lower back. The body's circulation continues to work harder than usual, and the amount of blood has increased, which can affect both temperature regulation and energy levels.
Hormone levels are more stable than in the first trimester, but the body is still undergoing major adaptations that can be felt differently from day to day.
Symptoms in pregnancy week 15
Many people experience fewer symptoms in week 15 of pregnancy than before. Nausea has often subsided, and appetite may be more stable. Fatigue may still be present, but for many it feels less overwhelming.
Other common symptoms may include increased vaginal discharge, mild abdominal distension, headaches or nosebleeds. Some also experience skin changes, such as pigmentation changes or increased radiance.
What happens to the baby at week 15?
At 15 weeks pregnant, your baby is about 9–10 centimetres long and weighs about 70 grams. The body is growing rapidly and movements are becoming more coordinated. The baby is actively moving its arms, legs and head, although you may not be able to feel it yet.
The skeleton slowly begins to become firmer and the muscles become stronger. The baby may also begin to respond to touch and movement inside the womb.
Pregnant week 15 and the belly
At week 15, the belly for many begins to become more apparent. For some it is still discreet, while for others the pregnancy is now visible. The belly may feel more tense or tight as the uterus grows.
It is very individual when the belly becomes visible, and differences are completely normal.
What can you do in week 15?
Week 15 of pregnancy is a good time for many to find a rhythm in their pregnancy. Light movement can support both physical well-being and energy levels, if the body allows it. At the same time, it can be a good idea to pay attention to posture and breaks during the day.
During this period, many people also begin to take a more active approach to upcoming examinations, preparations, and practical considerations regarding pregnancy.
Thoughts and feelings in pregnancy week 15
For many, pregnancy week 15 feels more stable and secure. Worries may take up less space, while joy and anticipation can take up more space. At the same time, new thoughts about the body, identity and parenthood may arise as the pregnancy becomes more visible.
All of these thoughts are a natural part of the process.
When should you seek medical attention?
In the 15th week of pregnancy, there is generally no need for emergency medical care. However, if you experience severe pain, persistent bleeding, fever or symptoms that worry you, you should always contact a doctor or midwife.
