Pregnant week 14 – more energy and new sensations

Pregnancy week 14 is often characterized by more energy and fewer symptoms. Read about the body's changes and baby's development in week 14.

Gravid uge 14 – mere energi og nye fornemmelser

Pregnant week 14 is firmly at the beginning of the second trimester, which for many is experienced as a more stable and manageable period in pregnancy. The body has gone through major changes, and for some, energy is now slowly starting to return. At the same time, pregnancy is becoming more present, both physically and mentally.

Week 14 can therefore feel like a week where there is a little more space for everyday life again - without the pregnancy taking up less space.

What happens in the body at week 14?

In week 14 of pregnancy, the placenta is largely responsible for hormone production. This means that the strong hormone fluctuations from the first trimester are often less pronounced. For many, this provides more stability and fewer symptoms such as nausea and extreme fatigue.

The uterus continues to grow and can now often be felt more clearly above the pubic bone. The body's center of gravity slowly begins to shift, and some experience new bodily sensations in the back, hips, or pelvis.

Symptoms in pregnancy week 14

Many women find that by week 14 of pregnancy, nausea is either completely gone or significantly milder. Appetite may be more stable and energy levels higher than earlier in pregnancy. However, fatigue may still occur, especially towards the end of the day.

Other common symptoms this week may include nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or mild headaches, which are related to increased blood flow. Your skin may also change, either becoming more radiant or more blemished.

What happens to the baby at week 14?

At 14 weeks pregnant, the baby is about 8–9 centimeters long and weighs approximately 40–45 grams. The body is growing rapidly, and the proportions gradually begin to resemble a small human more and more.

The baby is actively moving its arms and legs, and its muscles are getting stronger. Facial features are clearer, and the baby can make small movements like yawning or moving its mouth, even though you can't feel it yet.

Pregnant week 14 and the belly

At week 14, the belly starts to become more visible for many, especially if it is not the first pregnancy. For others, it is still mostly a changed body sensation and a need for more space in clothes. The belly may feel firmer as the uterus grows.

When the belly becomes visible is very individual and depends on body structure and previous pregnancies, among other things.

What can you do in week 14?

Week 14 of pregnancy is a good time for many to resume or adjust light physical activity, if the body allows it. Exercise can support both energy levels and well-being, but it is important to listen to your body's signals.

It can also be a good week to start learning about the course of your pregnancy, tests, and any birth preparations, if that feels right.

Thoughts and feelings in pregnancy week 14

For many, pregnancy week 14 feels more secure. Worries can take up less space, and the joy of pregnancy can take up more space. At the same time, new thoughts about parenthood, the body, and identity can emerge.

There is no set framework for how this period should feel – all experiences are legitimate.

When should you seek medical attention?

In the 14th week of pregnancy, there is generally no need for emergency medical care. However, if you experience severe pain, persistent bleeding, fever or other symptoms that worry you, you should contact a doctor or midwife.
